Ranchi: Jharkhand is all set to follow the path of Gujarat in promoting kite making in the State.

The new dispensation in Ranchi is more than eager to accord kite making the status of cottage industry to open up new employment opportunities. Chief Minister Raghubar Das said that his government will definitely give a boost to kite making to open employment opportunities in villages and cities.

Chief Minister Raghubar Das inaugurated Namo Patang Mahotsav at Arogra Ranchi today on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. He also tried his hands in kite flying and encouraged the gathering. This year kite enthusiasts lapped up to kites bearing images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had given kite flying a big boost to promote tourism in Gujarat.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion of Namo Patang Mahotsav Raghubar Das said that there was a great potential in kite making industry in Jharkhand. It could be harnessed to accord kite making the status of cottage industry. He said that kite making industry has opened up big employment opportunity in Gujarat. Jharkhand should also take lessons from Gujarat in the field.

Jharkhand government will take necessary steps to promote Patang Mahotsav all over Jharkhand in the manner it is being held in Ranchi on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. Kite making can provide employment to the poor and the unemployment, the CM said.

On the occasion urban development minister CP Singh said Ranchi is hosting kite festival for the last two years. Last year too Namo Patang Mahotsav was held in great enthusiasm.

It has been an age-old tradition in Jharkhand where Makar Sankranti festivities are held with events such as cock fight and kite flying. Such events help preserve culture and tradition of the land, Singh observed.
