JWC celebrates Womens Day, speakers emphasize on gender equality


    Jamshedpur, March 8: The faculty of education and political science department of the Jamshedpur Women’s College organized on International Women’s Day on Tuesday. Kolhan University pro-VC Dr Shukla Mohanty was the chief guest on the occasion.

    Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mahanty said women are actually running their homes as well as society. Talking about the dowry system, she said, “Girls should not buy their husbands from the market and gave a call to be independent and self-reliant for all the students and women of the society.”

    Aruna Mishra and Taruna Mishra, former students of the college and international boxers, shared their real life experiences and thanked their parents for nurturing them the way that they are free from all fear.

    Devika Singh raised the issues related to ladies toilets and maternal leave for the working women. Ratna Bhattacharya gave a call to all the girls should always move forward with the thought “I can do”. Dr. Shanti Suman said that women’s day and “Stri Vimarsh” is actually for the development of lower strata women.

    Dr. Purnima Kumar, the professor-in-charge praised all the guests for their work in respective fields. She also gave a call for ‘gender equality’ for equal opportunities and to fill up the gap in the society.

    Vote of thanks was extended by B.Ed. assistant professor Dr. Tripura Jha. Dr. Mudita Chandra, Dr. Joohi Samarpita, Sushil Kumar Tiwari, Mamta Lal, Aparajita and other professors were also present on the occasion.
