Jamshedpur: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha members today took out a torchlight procession at Mango and Sakchi to protest against the proposed amendments in the land laws of Jharkhand by the state government. They also burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Raghubar Das to register their protest on the issue.

Senior party leader Ramdas Soren led party members and activists during the torchlight procession. Holding banners and posters against the land laws amendment proposal of the state government, the party members raised slogans to decry the government decision.

Making any changes in the CNT Act and the SPT Act will deprive the poor Adivasis and Moolvasis of their land and property. This is aimed at taking away whatever little the Adivasis have in their hands. The government should never be allowed to go ahead with its plans. We will take to the streets against any such move of the state government, come what may, said Soren.

The procession moved through the streets and culminated near Sakchi roundabout.

A similar protest was visible at Dimna Chowk where the JMM leaders gathered for the pre-announced programme under the leadership of Babar Khan. The party members took out a torchlight procession from Dimna Chowk and reached Khudiram Bose Chowk at Mango.

The effigies of the CM and state minister Nilkanth Singh Munda were also burnt here. Party leaders alleged that the government was conspiring against the Adivasis in a bid to benefit corporate houses and private players of the industrial world.
