Jhartex to offer platform to rural artisan and weavers

Ranchi, Nov. 4: As a part of the state�s foundation day celebrations, the Government of Jharkhand in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organising JHARTEX � a mega handloom, textile and handicraft trade fair from November 4 to 8, 2015�at Morabadi Ground, Ranchi.

The trade fair aims to promote the textile, handloom and handicraft sector in the country, with special emphasis on Jharkhand, and to highlight the artisans� talent and cultural diversity.

Inaugurating the fair on Wednesday, state HRD minister Dr. Neera Yadav said, �Being a tribal state, Jharkhand is famous for its indigenous artistic handicraft and�Jhartex�has provided a platform to the rural artisan and weavers to showcase their products.� Dr. Yadav also admired the efforts taken by Jharcraft in helping and providing rural people with self-employment.

Mr. Tarun Daga, chairman, Confederation of Indian Industry�(ER) and managing director, Tinplate Company of India Ltd., said, �The textile industry has made a major contribution to the national economy in terms of direct and indirect employment generation and net foreign exchange earnings.�Jharkhand is known for its tasar silk varieties in India and now with the impetus on exports, it has made a mark globally.� He further said, �CII and government of Jharkhand formed a joint taskforce in 2013 with the objective to promote �Brand Jharkhand�.�

Mr. AT Mishra, managing director, Jharcraft, and special secretary, Jharkhand department of industry, also graced the occasion. Mishra said that the foundation day of Jharkhand could not be celebrated in a better way than this.��He highlighted that around 120 exhibitors participating from Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, West Bengal, Haryana, Orissa, Nagpur, Lucknow, Varanasi and others are participating in the trade fair titled �Jhartex.�

�This showcases the rich history and artisan diversity of each state of the country in the area of textile, handloom and handicraft,� Mishra said, adding, �Jhartex gives a platform to the rural artisan and weavers to showcase their product and�the�shilpagram�platform in Jhartex provides a platform for display of wide range of handicraft products that seem to be endangered in the foreseeable future.�

Visitors can also get a glimpse of live demonstrations by women and men artisans at the fair.
