Jharkhand to give Rs 50,000 as ex-gratia for kins of deceased Covid patients


Ranchi, December 8:  State government will give compensation of Rs 50,000 as ex-gratia to kins of those who have died of Covid in the first and second wave. 
According to data furnished by state health and disaster management minister, Banna Gupta, a total of 5133 people across the state had died of Covid. The state government has decided that the kin of those who died of Covid will be given an amount of Rs 50 thousand. Issuing instructions in this regard, Health and Disaster Management Minister Banna Gupta has said that Hemant Soren government is sensitive to the need of the people and decided to provide solace to the those grieved due to loss of life in the Covid pandemic. .
Banna Gupta said that Rs 25, 66,50,000 have been allocated for the dependents of 5133 dead in 24 districts of the state. Instructions have been given to all the Deputy Commissioners of the state to ensure the distribution among the dependents of the deceased on their own responsibility. This money will be transferred directly to the bank account of the dependents.

Dependents of people who died of corona can apply for compensation through respective circle office, sub-divisional office, deputy commissioner’s office or through online portal with certificate (which confirms death from Covid).  After receipt of application it would be verified by the district administration. After verification and scrutiny of the application by the Circle Officer, the application will be reviewed by the District Disaster Management Authority and a decision will be taken regarding the allocation. In the light of the decision of the District Disaster Management Authority, the amount of compensation will be transferred to the bank account of the dependents/claimants.

As per the data, the districts and the number of persons who died of Covid are as follows: Ranchi – 1585, Gumla – 38, Simdega – 92, Lohardaga – 88, East Singhbhum – 1043, West Singhbhum – 133, Seraikela Kharsawan – 67, Palamu – 110, Garhwa – 94, Latehar – 57, Hazaribagh – 186, Chatra – 53 , Koderma – 136, Giridih – 130, Dhanbad – 381, Bokaro – 286, Dumka – 47, Jamtara – 60, Deoghar – 113, Godda – 87, Sahebganj – 42, Pakur – 12, Ramgarh – 197, Khunti – 96.
