Ranchi, March 11: Jharkhand education and literacy development department has finalised name of 68 toppers for 2021-22 academic session in matriculation and intermediate level for cash prizes, laptops and smartphones.

Significantly, Jharkhand for the first time would give laptops and smartphones along with cash prizes to state toppers in the state boards, CBSE and ICSE/ISC board exams after the chief minister Hemant Soren ensured the proposal to be given nod at the cabinet meeting earlier this year as it would be necessary for meritorious students to help in pursing higher studies.

Jharkhand school education and literacy development secretary K. Ravikumar confirmed that this would be the first instance in the over two decade-old state of state toppers across all boards getting cash prizes.

“Earlier state toppers in Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) conducted examinations used to receive cash prizes. However, a decision has been taken to honour those toppers who have passed out from CBSE, ICSE/ISC boards too. We would also be providing laptops and smartphones to each of the toppers,” said Ravikumar.

The government will finalise the date after receiving the nod from the chief minister.

“We want the felicitation ceremony to be over in Ranchi this month to avoid bureaucratic hassles due to closure of the financial year after March. The file has been sent to chief minister’s office and a date would be given in a day or two,” said a source in the school education department.

After the announcement of honoring the toppers by the state government, the work of making the list of toppers was done from the Jharkhand Academic Council, CBSE and ICSE and ISC examinations.

According to this list, 68 students will be given incentive amount, laptop and mobile. Top three of different boards will be honored Jharkhand Academic Council, Government will honor three toppers of CBSE and ICSE. Along with cash, they will also be given a laptop worth Rs 60,000 and a smart phone worth Rs 20,000.

State topper will get Rs 3 lakh, second topper Rs 2 lakh and third topper Rs 1 lakh.

The state government had started the scheme of giving cash to the toppers from 2020.

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) has rescheduled the Jharkhand Board class 10th and class 12th exams 2023 to be held on March 24th following the holiday for the Sarhul Festival 2023 in the state.

The JAC board matric exam to be conducted on March 24th, 2023 has been shifted now to March 25th. While the inter-exams scheduled for March 24th will now be conducted on April 5th, 2023.
