Jharkhand ATS takes Sami, Katki on fresh remand for 3 days


    Jamshedpur, May 12: Jharkhand Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has taken suspected al Qaida operatives Abdul Sami, Abdul Rahman Katki, Masood Azhar and Nasim alias Raju on three days remand.

    ATS had filed a petition in the Jamshedpur court for the same and hearing the petition, CJM ordered three days remand for the suspected al Qaida operatives.

    Significantly, Jamshedpur police had taken Abdul Sami and Abdul Rahman Katki lodged at Delhi’s Tihar Jail on seven days remand on April 27, 2016 and questioned them along with Masood and Raju who were lodged at Ghoaghidih Jail by making them sit face to face.

    Later the investigation was handed over to Jharkhand ATS. Masood and Raju who were taken on two days remand and Sami and Katki who were taken on seven days remand were later sent back to Ghaghidih Central Jail on Thursday, May 5 morning after their seven days police remand ended on Wednesday, May 4.

    According to sources, the suspected al Qaida operatives can reveal much more about the spreading of the terror network in Jharkhand and nearby states. The ATS team which would be investigating the first case since the formation of Jharkhand ATS might observe some serious revelation by the duo.

    The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has taken suspected al Qaida operatives into a fresh remand and will now investigate the matter and the case (21/16) registered against duo at Bistupur police station after the orders came in last month from the police headquarters to hand over the case to ATS. DSP level officer has been made the investigator and now the Jamshedpur police will only assist the ATS team on the investigation front according to their requirement.

    According to reports, the duo has been linked to terrorist group Al Qaeda and Lashkar. In the FIR both Sami and Katki have been accused of linking youths to the terror outfits, catalyze and were trying to disturb the peace and order of the country. They have also been accused of treason. Sami has been accused of training himself for the terror group in Pakistan.

    It may be noted that Katki has confessed to have started spreading the network for al Qaida in six states including Jharkhand, Odisha, Bengal, Bihar by selecting candidates for going on the radical path and even giving them training at his Madarsa in Cuttack,” a police officer had informed.

    Abdul Sami is basically from Syed Road under Kapali Police Station in Seraikela district. Currently, he was residing in Road No. 2, B Block, AK Residency in Dhatkidih under Bistupur police station. On the other hand, Abdul Rahman Katki is a resident of Satabatiya under Jagatpur police station of Cuttack district.
