Japanese Breed �Akita� to be cynosure of all eyes at Jamshedpur Dog Show

Jamshedpur, Jan. 6: The Jamshedpur Kennel Club is all set to host the 56th, 57th and 58th Championship Dog Show at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Saturday and Sunday, January 9 and 10. This comprises of pointed and non pointed shows.

The annual dog show is back and its promises to be bigger and better with hundreds of participants from all over the country and more than 35 breeds of dogs will add colour to the show, said A.M. Misra, president, Jamshedpur Kennel Club and chairman, Tata Sponge Ltd.

Japanese dog Akita which was last seen at the Jamshedpur show over a decade back will be the centre of attraction at this year�s show. Akita is a large breed of canine from the mountainous northern region of Japan.

Several other breed including Afghan Hound, Siberian Husky, Kerry Blue Terrier, Fox Terrier (Wire), Chihuahua (long and short coat), American Cokker Spaniel, Whippet apart from the normal popular breeds like Pugs, Poms, Spitz, German Shephard ( Alsatian & Melanoise), Labrador, Golden Retriever, Daschund,English & Bull Mastiff, Great Dane, Doberman, Boxer, Beagle etc. will be competing in the championship, said Biswanath Roy, Hony. Secretary, Jamshedpur Kennel Club.

A dog owner from Sambalpur (Odisha) is coming for the show with his Akita.

Addressing the mediapersons at JRD Complex on Wednesday, Roy said, �We have received 261 entries under the various categories from dog owners and breeders in Calcutta, Ranchi, Dhanbad, Bhubaneswar, Delhi and Bangalore, who will be taking part in the event. Local dog owners will also be part of the championship�.

Roy further said, this year as per the new Kennel Club of India (KCI) format, there would be 10 groups competing in 3 rings, namely the 56th, 57th and 58th rings for Best in Class, Best of Breed, Reserve Best of Breed, Best Puppy etc.

President Mishra said, the Judges for this year�s Championship would be R.C. Lingam from Mumbai for Obedience and Stanley Shen (Singapore), Mr. Derrick Seow Nam Soon (Malaysia), Chakkapan Chantarasmee (Thailand), T. Preetaham (India) for All Breeds.

Ruchi Narendran, Dog show secretary, said, the 2015 show witnessed a footfall of 2700 people and this year we hope more visitors come to annual event. �The Jamshedpur Kennel Club organizes this show with an aim to generate interest amongst citizen�s in keeping Pet�s, to bring about awareness about breeds and their care, organize weekly and daily clinics for their treatment at the Kennel Club�.

Mrs. Narendran further said, this show is probably the culmination of the Jamshedpur Carnival and is open to all. Jamshedpur Kennel Club is the only registered club under Jharkhand-Bihar combine. The show, which is into its fourth decade now is organized to increase awareness about Man�s Best Friend, it�s care and a general awareness about the various breeds.

The show will be inaugurated on Saturday, January 9 by T.V.Narendran, managing director, Tata Steel. The inaugural ceremony would be from 8.30am to 9.30am followed by the Obedience Tests during the day. The All Breeds show would be conducted on the 10th from 8.00 am.

The final day prize distribution would be at 6.45 pm. The Chief Guest for the closing day would be A.B.Lall, Plant Head, Tata Motors.
