In its effort to enhance better facilities, the State Government will provide Sadar Hospital at Khasmahal a blood components separator unit (BCSU). Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday laid the foundation stone for the BCSU on-line from Ranchi.

District civill surgeon, AK Lal said the BCSU will come up on the second floor of the hospital. He informed that the work for the room construction is in a final stage as soon as the blood components separator machine comes here, it will be installed there at the hospital immediately.

” As per today, the functionaries of Sadar Hospital have to depend on MGM Medical College Hospital or the Tata Main Hospital for getting platelets or plasma for the patients undergoing treatment at the Sadar Hospital, but once a BCSU is set up here, they will not have to depend on other hospitals, ” said the civil surgeon.

Lal stated that from the BCSU, all the four components of the blood — platelets, plasma, RBC and WBC — could be separated as per the requirements of the patients.

Located at the eastern part of the city, Sadar Hospital, Khasmahal  has a blood bank, having a capacity to store 100 units of blood. Significantly, an RT-PCR lab is also going to be set up at the Sadar Hospital, Khasmahal .

The civil surgeon informed that the work for setting up the RT-PCR lab at the Sadar Hospital has begun.

“Presently, MGM Medical College has an RT-PCR lab at the government level. During the pressure time of Covid pandemic, a large number of samples would come to the medical college’s lab. Keeping this situation in view, the health department has decided to settle up an RT-PCR lab at the Sadar Hospital, Khasmahal , ” said the civil surgeon.

The 100-bedded Sadar Hospital provides facilities for a large number of patients, including the accident victims hailing from the densely-populated Golpahari area, Parsudih, Sundarnagar, Bagbera and Govindpur. People having medical emergencies from far off Hata and Haldipokhar areas of the district also get admitted there.

Significantly, the Sadar Hospital has been converted into a Covid hospital and a large number of patients coming from the eastern fringe area of the city were treated during the pandemic. While isolation wards have been set up in the district hospitals in the 19 districts, Jamshedpur Sadar Hospital also has a four-bed isolation ward.
