Jamshedpur worker dies after fall from water tank

Jamshedpur/Mosaboni, July 21: A 35-year old worker identified as Karan Murmu, a native of Sarjamdih village in Dhalbhumgarh block died after falling from 35-feet water tank of the rural water supply scheme in Tumangkocha village under Forest Block Panchayat in Mosaboni thana area of East Singhbhum district on Wednesday. 

The worker had climbed on the water tank to paint when he slipped and fell down leading to death after sustaining head injury. 

The other workers informed the private contractor Shine Engineering Private Limited and their official Arvind Singh took the injured Karan to Kendadih community health centre where the doctors referred him to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur where he died.  The private contractor returned the body without postmortem which led to resentment among the villagers and the workers. It was only after the locals  informed the Mosaboni police that the police reached and sent the body for post mortem. 

The locals sought compensation of Rs 5 lakh from the private contractor as they claimed that the mishap took place due to their negligence, the contractor has paid Rs 20,000 for the deceased family. 

Ghatshila MlA Ramdas Soren has sought action against those responsible for the death of the worker and demanded Rs 25 lakh compensation. The workers claimed that earlier too a worker from Chandil had got seriously injured in January 2021 while painting the water tower near Mosaboni Gurudwara. They complained that the private contractor had not given them safety apparatus for working in the water tank.
