Jamshedpur, March 7: Dozens of B.Ed. and D.El.Ed. trained candidates from East Singhbhum district submitted memorandums to three legislators on Saturday, urging them to raise the long-pending issue of conducting the Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET) in the state assembly.
The memorandums were handed over to Jugsalai MLA Mangal Kalindi, Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy, and Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu.
The candidates requested the legislators to ensure early approval of the revised JTET rules and to push for the prompt conduct of the examination.
Speaking on the occasion, candidate representative Navkishore Mahto said that the future of more than five lakh trained candidates in Jharkhand is at stake due to the non-conduct of the examination for the past nine years. He pointed out that according to the guidelines of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), teacher eligibility tests like the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) are conducted twice a year, and similarly, JTET should ideally be conducted once or twice annually.
However, despite nearly a decade having passed, the Jharkhand government has yet to hold the examination, which has also resulted in around 15,000 vacant posts of assistant teachers across the state.
Jamshedpur East MLA Purnima Sahu assured the candidates that their concerns are genuine and promised to raise the issue in the state assembly.
Those present during the submission of the memorandums included Ashwini Kumar Rajak, Subodh Mandal, Dulal Singh, Pradhan Chandra Mahto, Deoraj Mahto, Awadhesh Mahto, Sameer Mahto, and several other candidates.
