Jamshedpur traffic police spread message on road safety

Jamshedpur : In view of rising cases of road mishaps in Jamshedpur, East Singhbhum district police has launched a 10-day traffic awareness campaign. The drive aimed at educating the citizens will involve school and college students, transporters, auto-rickshaw drivers� associations, traders and members, Jusco, Tata Steel sports department.

On Saturday, an awareness programme was held at Jamshedpur Women�s College. Guests spoke on importance of following road safety rules.

The city police havehit the streets by spreading road safety messages by putting up advertisements at important squares, organizing nukkadnataks and host of other events.

During the campaign traffic constables after catching violators, mainly helmetless riders and drivers without seat belts, will request them to wear helmets and follow traffic safety rules for their own safety and for their family.

�It is an ambitious initiative and we want to make people see that they are the sufferers of traffic violations. We will organize workshops put up large hoardings at important squares and in front of shopping complexes, schools and colleges in the city. We hope this will also catch the attention of youngsters who are normally accused of rash driving the most,� said an official.

He said that making people understand the importance of traffic rules is a major challenge which needs to be checked immediately. The officer said that parents must cooperate with the traffic authorities in order to ensure violation-free passage of traffic in the city.

Meanwhile, Anup Birtharay, SSP, East Singhbhum, said that it is essential to engage the children at an emotional level on the consequences of an accident- its impact on their own lives and the lives of people around them. He said that unless children empathise with people affected by a mishap, they will never understand what a family undergoes when it loses a member.
