Jamshedpur, May 28: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has directed East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner, Vijaya Jadhav to investigate a case of fee hike by a private school in contravention of government guidelines on the issue. The order of inquiry issued by NCPCR stated that the Commission had received complaints by parents regarding fee hike at Kerala Public School in Burmamines in contravention of government norms.
The NCPCR directive for inquiry mentioned that there were complaints by parents of students of Kerala Public School that children whose fees had not been paid were made to stand outside the classrooms as punishment. NCPR said that these were violation of the law of Right to Education.
NCPCR has directed the Deputy Commissioner to conduct an investigation into the allegation and the action taken by the district administration and report the details within 20 days.
It may be mentioned that in March, 2022, parents launched a protest against the increase of school fees for the academic year 2022-’23 by Kerala Public School in Burmamines. Simultaneously, a complaint was sent to NCPCR regarding the fee hike whereby it was also mentioned that the inability of parents unable to deposit the enhanced school fees led the school authorities to make their children stand outside the classroom under the sun a move that was in contravention of Right to Education norms.
