Aditya of Haryana throws 66.52m to bag gold in Boy’s U-16
Jharkhand’s Hemant Kumar bagged the bronze medal with a throw of 49.86m
Jamshedpur, May 9: The second day of the 4th Indian Open Javelin Throw Competition witnessed categories like Boys U-16, Girls under-18, Girls Under-20 and Men.
Rohit Yadav of Uttar Pradesh won gold with a throw of 78.31m. His other throws were 74.65m, 76.19m, 74.94m, 77.33m and 77.68m.
Hayana lad Sahil Silwal was second with a throw of 76.64m. Gagandeep of Punjab bagged bronze with his best throw of 67.74m.
Archana Yadav of Uttar Pradesh bagged gold in the Girls U-18 event on the concluding day at JRD Tata Sports complex in Jamshedpur. Archana with throw of 42.69m earned her gold. Her other set of throws were 34.85m,41.69m,34.43m,37.68m and 37.18m.
Harayana’s Seema was second with the throw of 41.79m. She followed up with efforts of 37.76m, 40.88m, 40.59m, 39.40m and 41.79m.
Nishi Kumari of Bihar with a throw of 40.42m won her bronze.
In Boy’s U-16 event Aditya of Haryana won the gold medal with a throw of 66.52m in his first attempt. His next set of throws were 63.88m and 64.48m.
Mahendra Swami of Rajasthan won the silver with his best throw of 52.73m in his last attempt.
Jharkhand’s Hemant Kumar bagged the bronze medal with a throw of 49.86m.
In association with Athletics Federation of India, Tata Steel 4th Indian Open Javelin Throw Competition that kicked off on May 8, 2020 at JRD Tata Sports complex concluded today. It is the first time that the Steel City hosted a Javelin Competition.
The concluding day event was graced by DB Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Raw Materials, Tata Steel, Adille J Sumarilwala, President, Athletics Federation of India amongst other dignitaries.
It is the third major competition for the throwers this year after the inaugural National Open Throws Competition at Patiala in March and the Federation Cup Senior Athletics Competition at Kozhikode organised last month. The calendar is designed to give athletes chances to qualify for and compete in various international events this year.
Organised by the Sports department of the Company, the event hosted 68 participants from across the country in different categories- Men, Women, Boys U-16, U-18 & U-20 and Girls U-16, U-18 & U-20 Girls.
Earlier, speaking on opening day, Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel said that the Company is focusing on building infrastructure for all types of Sports. He was glad to see the performance of trained sportspersons at National & International level. He expressed his delight in hosting this event and thanked the AFI for extending the support.
On the opening day, Ace Indian javelin thrower and Olympian Annu Rani (Uttar Pradesh) stole the show on first day as she bettered her own national record with a throw of 63.82-metres in the Women (600g) javelin throw event.
In Boys (800g) Under-20 category, top three throwers were Vivek Kumar (68.67 metres) from Madhya Pradesh followed by Manbir Singh (66.98 metres) from Haryana. Third position was bagged by Akash Yadav (62.72 metres) from Jharkhand.
In Girls (500g) Under-16 category, Disha from Delhi bagged first position with a throw of 34.87 metres while Muskan Patel (34.30 metres) from Uttar Pradesh was adjudged second. Tanisha Yadav from Rajasthan was in third position with a throw of 31.20 metres.
In Boys (700g) Under-18 category, Yash from Haryana was declared first with a throw of 67.42 metre while Himanshu Mishra (66.40 metres) was declared second. S Yadav from Uttar Pradesh was declared third with a throw of 60.92 metres.
