Ranchi, September 5: A teacher from Jamshedpur school got the National Award to Teachers from Jharkhand from President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday, September 5.

The awards were presented to 44 teachers on the occasion of Teachers’ Day in a webinar. Sunday also marked the beginning of Shikshak Parv-2021 under the Ministry of Education. The programme will be held in online mode and continue till September 17.

The purpose of National Award to Teachers is to celebrate the unique contribution of some of the finest teachers in the country and to honor those teachers who through their commitment and industry have not only improved the quality of school education but also enriched the lives of their students.

Adityapur-based Manoj Kumar Singh, a mathematics teacher at Hindustan Mitra Mandal Middle School, 10 No Basti, Golmuri, received the award at a virtual program hosted by state education department at NIC in Ranchi.

The award carries a medal, a certificate and Rs 50,000 as award money.

Expressing happiness at the selection, Manoj Kumar Singh (49), a resident of Adityapur who is deputed as a mathematics and science teacher at Hindustan Mitra Mandal Middle School in Golmuri, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand attributed his selection for his passion to teach complex mathematical concepts through innovative practical and art-based pedagogy mostly done outside the boundaries of classroom.

“Students in state-owned schools are not that well versed in English to understand the concept of mathematics especially complex theorems and formulae. For the last one decade, I have devised my own art based pedagogy with focus on ‘learning by doing’ concept to imbibe among students hailing from poorer strata without good language skills concept of mathematics. I can proudly say that most of the students in the schools I have been deputed have fetched good marks in mathematics at the matric level,” said Manoj Kumar Singh who conducts online teaching through his YouTube channel ‘creative learning with Manoj’.

Manoj who is also a part of the e-content developer team of Jharkhand Council of Education Research and Training (JCERT), to make online state level content of mathematics during the Covid pandemic through Digi Sath School app has converted one room in his house into a classroom, in which all the necessary digital equipment, computer, camera, tripod stand, mic, headphones,  a big LED screen with a whiteboard is available.

“I live in a two-bedroom house but had to do this for the sake of my YouTube Channel and also for imparting education through Digi Sath app for students,” said Manoj Kumar Singh.

The e-content created by him is broadcast continuously from the portal of Digi School. DG School App has been created by the Education Department of Jharkhand Government and JCERT for the children from class one to class 12.

Meanwhile, functions were hosted at various schools across city on the occasion of Teachers Day.
