Jamshedpur, April 13: Among a list of Jamshedpur denizens creating a niche in various tinsel towns is makeup artiste Nishi Singh who, by dint of sheer hard work, has become a craze among the glitterati of Bollywood, so much so that she herself has attained celebrity status. Nishi was born and brought up in Birsanagar and her parents and maternal grandparents abide here. She takes time off her busy, professional schedule and visits them on rare occasions.
Nishi Singh’s story of success had not been a part of dream run story book. She had to make room for herself through determined efforts. She had to meet stiff competition from veterans in her trade but she took the challenges in her stride and gradually became a hot favourite of stars and production houses.
When asked about her ‘much sought after’ tag that she enjoys in Bollywood, Nishi turned philosophical while observing, “Bollywood dreams centre around acting careers but while growing up and learning about star looks, I decided to go in for a job as celluloid makeup artiste. Yes, I had prolonged junctures of struggle as nothing comes easy in the film industry. But, if one has the dedication and determination, challenges can gradually be overcome. At least, that is what happened to me. In fact, I continued to learn the tricks of the trade and experimented with new ideas to add to my repertoire.”
This makeup and beauty enhancer added, “Skill development is a continuous process for me or else I can never last through the race. Of course, my growing knowledge and personalized approach for each of my artistes have added to my list of growing clientele.”
Her makeup skills are appreciated and hailed by Bollywood’s who’s who as will be evident from Akshay Kumar’s upcoming mega film, ‘Prithviraj’ under the famous Yashraj banner and the same actor’s sequel, ‘OMG-2’ directed by Amit Rai.
Star Yami Gautam prefers Nishi Singh over all else. Kiara Advani’s hair style in the film, ‘Bhool Bhulaiya,’ the makeup of Kartik Aryan in the same movie and that of South star Rashi Khanna speak miles of her talent as a makeover artiste.
Prior to these Nishi did makeup and hairstyling for dozens of hit films that include ‘Guddu Rangeela’ and ‘Yeh Lal Rang,’ including Sridevi’s daughter Jhanvi and Ishan Khattar in ‘Dhadak.’
Prior to her phenomenal success, Nishi spent seven yesars of training in Delhi and a six-month stint in the USA. Nishi’s work has been seeing her shuttling between Mumbai and Delhi. Her maternal grandparents and parents live in Birsanagar. Her latest visit to the city saw her meeting devotee and fan of cine icon Madhuri Dixit, Pappu Sardar at his popular Manohar Chaat eatery. On being prodded, Nishi Singh stated, ‘I am a huge fan of Madhuri Dixit myself. I have worked with the matinee idol on several occasions and we are admirers of each other,” and added, “I have been inviting Pappu Ji to come to Mumbai. In fact, he should be there. Four years ago when I had come to Jamshedpur, I had extended the same invitation to him.”
Pappu Sardar said, “Nishi, herself Madhuri Dixit’s fan keeps on calling me to Mumbai. May be, the time may come for me to make a trip to Mumbai and meet my idol, Madhuri Ji.”
Nishi Singh who was at Pappu’s stall, said, “Pappu Ji is known even in Bollywood as Madhuri Ji’s ardent fan. I myself have collected several interesting information about him through social media.”
Nishi said that her maternal grandfather Ramlakhan Singh was a Tata Motors employee while her father, Ajay Kumar Singh was a government school teacher. Both are retired now.
