Jamshedpur, Oct 2: Komal Thatal wants to give it all and put Jamshedpur FC on the success route in the upcoming Indian Super League 2022-23 season.

The 22-year-old former Under 17 World Cupper is also excited to play in front of the home crowd at the Furnace and wants the fans to come in droves to support the Red Miners.

The Sikkim-born right winger, the youngest to play in the cash-rich ISL, is one of key components for JFC, who claimed the League Winners Shield of the tournament in Goa last season.

On How does he feel about coming back after 2 years to Jamshedpur, Thatal said last season all the matches were in Goa so they couldn’t have fans. “I couldn’t feel that home crowd in the Furnace. This season as a team we are looking forward to it. I think most of the players weren’t there, only a few were there with the crowd in the Furnace.I have seen games at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. I have played away games here so I love the environment. Hopefully we will see the same fans and have a good season,” he added.

Asked about the last season, the former ATK player said: “Last year was great for us because as a team we did a phenomenal job and that’s why we got there in the end and winning a league is not easy. You know we were in a bubble from last year and still, we came up with that, it’s great.”

Sharing his experience in Sikkim as many players come from there, the youngster added: “At the beginning when I was a kid like 7-8 years old, it was just me, football and friends. While playing with them I got a feeling that I love football. After I joined the hostel and while graduating I got to know how a professional footballer’s routine is i.e., how to sleep, eat, time to go to bed. There are coaches and as a team I say a lot of people helped me out to be here so I’d give everything to them.

How was it coming from the U-17 World Cup then ATK and now here at JamshedpurFC? ” It’s a long journey, so when I joined ATK after the World Cup I was quite young and always wanted to be a professional when I was young and playing so to get there was good. I had games there and I gained some experience, and to move to Jamshedpur and get more gametime and play‚Ķ it’s good.”

On the U-17 World Cup experience, the fast-footed Thatal added: “It began around 2013, they scouted me and from then after a few months we came to know we’re gonna prepare for the World Cup. We had ups and downs, there were a lot of players coming in and out every once in a week kind of thing. We had a lot of trials and all that went during these 4 years brought some great exposure. We played with some very good teams and later on the U-17 World Cup as well. It has been a competitive journey for those 4 years.”

About his childhood football experience, the right winger said: “When I was a kid we used to play in the street. In school we get little time to play so we played 7-a-side anywhere we get a chance, be it a basketball court or road or anywhere. That’s how it started when I was 7-8 years old. When I was around 9 or 10 I joined a football hostel. Since then I felt like I became a professional as I used to train 2 times a day, came back from school and trained, and in the morning we trained at an early age.”

On his recovery from the injuries (hamstring)  he suffered last year, Thatal said injuries are a part of the journey, and “I think I played all games till 7 or 8 and then unfortunately it happened and then it happened again. I was upset about it because I wanted to play till the end with the team and on top of that we won the league and it was the missing part for me. I think recovery is a part of the journey and it was hard. It took me about 4-5 months, from which I got to know how to be patient about it. I wanted to play games but nothing could be done at that time. I learned a lot of things after that injury.””

About his feelings about the team this year? ” The team looks good, we are trying to play according to the requirements and style  of the coach. We are trying to get to know him because he is also new here so we have to give him some time. We are trying to figure out how exactly our team will play so that we get success. We are working on it.”
