Jamshedpur, Feb 4: The city woke up to unseasonal rains on Friday due to the impact of a western disturbance passing through mid-tropospheric levels with its axis at 5.8 Km. Under the impact of an induced cyclonic circulation over western Rajasthan, it led to widespread rainfall.

The crisp weather did a vanishing act today with a few places experiencing heavy rainfall. ” The low pressure trough in the lower levels of the atmosphere paved the way for unseasonal showers at several places today. The trough triggered by the cyclonic storm was resulting in heavy moisture inflow into the atmosphere,” said an official of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

Several places including Jamshedpur and Ranchi woke up to overcast conditions. Jamshedpur and its adjoining areas experienced rain which was accompanied by wind blowing at a speed of 20 Kmph.

A senior Met official in Ranchi said the adverse system had blocked the free flow of the north-westerly wind and resulted in overcast skies in Ranchi, Jamshedpur and  other places excepting the north-west region- Palamau, Chatra, Latehar and Garhwa.

In its 24-hour forecast both the IMD centres at Patna and Ranchi predicted rain at a few isolated places due to the formation of the low pressure troughline. ” The weather condition is expected to improve only after the next 24-hours,” said a weather analyst at the Patna Meteorological Centre.

Some parts of West Singhbhum, Seraikela-Kharsawan and Simdega district also witnessed thunderstorm and lightning activity early on Friday morning.

Weathermen, however, said that conditions would improve tomorrow and that dry weather is expected to prevail from tomorrow. However, weathermen predicted a fall in minimum readings by 3-5°C during the next 72 hours.

Dry weather is most likely to prevail from Sunday, February 6 with fog or mist in the morning and clear sky later. Meanwhile, dry weather prevailed over Jharkhand during the past 24 hours.

Night readings witnessed a rise in most parts of the state due to cloud cover and moisture incursion into the atmosphere.  Rainfall is also likely to take place at many places across the state due to the impact of the western disturbance and an associated cyclonic circulation.
