Jamshedpur crosses 10 lakh mark in Covid-19 vaccination

Jamshedpur, Sep 13: Jamshedpur has achieved the milestone of administering 10 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the district. “We thank the people for their overwhelming support, and our doctors, nurses and healthcare workers for their tireless efforts in the vaccination drive,” said a health official. He went on to add that the hard work and commitment of healthcare workers and those involved in vaccination to ensure a swift inoculation process to save precious lives helped achieve the milestone.

Dhalbhum SDO Sandeep Kumar Meena, who is also the in-charge of the vaccination cell, expressed happiness over the drive. “The vaccination drive has gained momentum. Ever since the walk in facility was introduced, the numbers have increased. Response of beneficiaries is overwhelming. If the supply continues in the same manner, I think, we will be able to vaccinate the entire target population with a single dose very soon,” he said.

The vaccination drive also got momentum ever since district administration started a drive at the Keenan Stadium last week. Three centres in urban areas are providing vaccination for people of 45 and above age group while the rest of the 23 centres would administer the vaccination to the 18 and above age group.

The official said that if the vaccination drive continues at the same pace, the department will be able to vaccinate the target population of about 16 lakh at least with a single dose soon. “The response from the rural population is improving with each passing day, earlier which was not visible,” he said.

“It is very important for pregnant and lactating women to get vaccination for the safety of the newborns. Vaccination is safe for them therefore, they should come forward,” he noted.

The District Administration has also appealed to all the residents of the district that those who have not taken the second dose to take their dose as soon as possible. By continuously running awareness campaigns through various mediums (social, print and electronic media) by the district administration, people are being made aware about vaccination as well as session sites are being organised for 18+ and 45+ age groups in regular urban areas.

“In view of the possible third wave, it is the effort of the district administration to ensure that the maximum number of district residents is vaccinated so that the district residents are completely safe from corona infection in the third wave,” he said.
