Jamshedpur cop suspect old lover in Swarnarekha Colony murder

Jamshedpur, April 15: Police suspect the role of one Rajesh Kumar in the murder of Rekha Rani Mahato at New Swarnarekha Colony in Adityapur on Thursday night. They have begun search for him on the basis of preliminary investigation into the killing, police said.

According to sources, the younger sister of the deceased has expressed suspicion over Rajesh’s involvement in her sister’s killing. “Rajesh is an old lover of my sister. He wanted to marry her and often tortured her. He opposed my sister’s marriage elsewhere and hence used to create ruckus at her flat in New Swarnarekha Colony. It is very likely that he killed my sister,” he said.

Police recovered Rekha’s body from her flat on Thursday night. Rekha’s throat was slit open with sharp weapons and burn marks were also found on the body, cops said.

Given the brutality involved in the killing, cops suspect it to be a case of passion crime.

Rekha had moved to the Swarnarekha Colony just two months ago.
