Jamshedpur: Bari Murmu elected Zila Parishad chairperson, Pankaj Sinha deputy

Jamshedpur, June 22: Bari Murmu and Pankaj Sinha were elected as the chairwoman and vice chairman of the East Singhbhum Zila Parishad here on Wednesday. Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav gave certificates of election to them and also administered the oath of office to them.

Earlier, all 27 members of the Zila Parishad were administered oath at the Jamshedpur Collectorate Auditorium. The DC congratulated the chairwoman, vice chairman and other members of the outfit. Both Murmu and Sinha had the backing of Bharatiya Janata party.

After the oath taking ceremony, the chairwoman and vice president of Zila Parishad were received by BJP workers outside the Collectorate. BJP leader Rajkumar Singh, district BJP leader Gunjan Yadav and Babua Singh were present on the occasion.

Rajkumar Singh, former vice president of East Singhbhum Zila Parihad, had announced to support Murmu and Sinha in the Zila Parishad elections. He did not contest the elections this time.

Bari Murmu got a total of 13 votes while her nearest rival Parvati Munda got 11 votes. Lakhi Mardi remained at the third spot by getting just two votes.

Sources said most of the Zila Parishad members who supported BJP and elected Murmu unanimously won the Zila Parishad elections while less than half of the members voted in favour of Parvati Munda of Gudabandha. Lakhi Mardi had firm belief in getting impartial support of voters. Pankaj Sinha received 16 votes while Kavita Parmar got 11 votes to remain at the second place. Kavita too, banked on the support of BJP backed members in the elections.

After their electoral victory, Murmu and Sinha were felicitated by the DC and District Panchayati Raj Officer Dr Rajnikant Mishra, ADC Nand Kishore Lal and Special Officer of Jamshedur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) Krishna Kumar.

District BJP general secretary Anil Modi congratulated Murmu and Sinha on their election and wished them success in their future endeavours.
