Jamshedpur all set to host 4th Indian Open Javelin Throw Competition

Renowned players like Annu Rani, Rohit Yadav to take part

Jamshedpur, May 7: Tata Steel Sports Department will host Tata Steel 4th Indian Open Javelin Throw Competition scheduled on May 8-9 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex here.

Star players like Olympian Annu Rani (Uttar Pradesh), Rohit Yadav among other will participate in national event for different age groups. Rohit Yadav, one of the two Indians who has thrown beyond the 80m mark this year, will lead the men’s field with the likes of Sahil Silwal (Haryana) hoping to find form and challenge the Uttar Pradesh athlete in the men’s field. 

As many as 38 men and boys and 30 women and girls will vie for honours in eight categories in the Competition.

Athletics Federation of India President Adille J Sumariwalla said that AFI is happy that National-level competition will return to Jamshedpur which is being hosted by Tata Steel.  He added “Indian athletics has been on the growth trajectory for some years now, with Neeraj Chopra’s Olympic gold providing the right impetus. Tata Steel’s decision to back National level events encourages AFI to work harder.”

Notably, Olympic Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra continues training in Turkey for the World Athletics Championships to be held later this year in Oregon.

It is the third major competition for the throwers this year after the inaugural National Open Throws Competition in Patiala in March and the Federation Cup Senior Athletics Competition in Kozhikode last month. The calendar is designed to give athletes chances to qualify for and compete in various international events this year.
