Inquiry commission submits report to the government on Rupa Tirkey case


Ranchi, January 22 A one-member judicial inquiry commission probing the death of the then officer in-charge of Sahibganj Mahila Police Station Rupa Tirkey has submitted its report to the Jharkhand Government.
 On Saturday retired Justice VK Gupta submitted the investigation report in Delhi to the Resident Commissioner of Jharkhand Government Mast Ram Meena. 
He however refused to say anything on what was the conclusion in this investigation report. He said that the report has been submitted to the Jharkhand government. 
Significantly, the commission had sought time till January 31 to submit the report. 
Justice Gupta, who had also served as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court said that despite several correspondences the family members of Rupa Tirkey did not appear before the commission to present their point of view therefore their side is not included in the commission’s investigation report. He said that as per the legal process the government will accept the findings of the probe after which the report will be made public. 
Justice VK Gupta said within six months of being public the report will be tabled in the Jharkhand Assembly for discussions. 
On May 3, 2021, the  body of Sahibganj Women Police Station in-charge Rupa Tirkey was found in the room of her government quarters in a hanging position. 
In this case, an FIR was registered first as an unnatural death (UD) case and later in the Borio police station of Sahibganj on May 9, 2021  the accused Sub Inspector Shiv Kumar Kanojia under the section of abetment to suicide. After which the police arrested Shiv Kanojia and sent him to jail, currently Shiv Kanojia is out on bail. On September 7, 2021, an FIR was registered by the Patna-based Special Crime Bureau branch of the CBI in connection with the death of Rupa Tirkey after the Jharkhand High Court ordered that the case be transferred to the investigating agency.
