Jamshedpur, Jan. 27: Tension prevailed in the Baghbera area of the city after an idol of Goddess Kali found broken inside a local temple in Baroda Ghaat locality early this morning. Hundreds of people, including women went to the decades-old temple for having a glance of the damaged idol.

District functionaries of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) also reached the spot to inspect the temple and the damage done to the idol. They were followed by a police team led by Bagbera police station officer-in-charge Rameswar Oraon.

Later in the day, sub-divisional police officer, Dhalbhum, Suraj Kumar, and East Singhbhum superintendent of police (city) Chandan Jha also arrived at the spot for inspection. Both Kumar and Jha met the temple management and the priest Keshu Baba.

The SDO ordered for deployment of force at the temple and also in the adjoining areas for maintaining peace. “We have deployed adequate police force near the temple and also in the adjoining areas.

The administration will conduct an enquiry into the incident and will ensure stern action against those found guilty,” said Kumar.

Meanwhile, VHP’s district president Arun Singh, who had arrived at the spot along with organizations leaders and activists, alleged that the deity had been mutilated by criminals with a view to take revenge.
