Founders Day: LCD screens to showcase ‘Journey of Tatas’


    Jamshedpur : The Steel City is preparing to pay tribute to its founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata on a digital medium during this year’s Founder’s Day celebration in city. Tata Steel subsidiary Jusco which provides urban amenities in company will install two LED screens at city’s landmark Jubilee Park for public viewing from March 2 evening.

    “The theme this year is ‘Going Digital’. We would be install two giant LED screens (dimensions 8 x 12 feet) at two ends near J N Tata statue at Jubilee Park. A short film made on journey of the city of J. N Tata will be screened. This would start functioning soon after lighting of the illuminations at the Jubilee Park on March 2 evening,” said an official.

    Incidentally, the founder’s day celebrated in Jamshedpur to mark the birth anniversary of Tata Group founder J. N Tata on March 3 has the lighting facility at the 235 acres Jubilee Park and other company establishments and city parks lighted on March 2 evening.

    According to Jusco spokesperson, the idea of showing the film on digital screen was in sync with this year’s theme for Founder’s Day ‘Going Digital’.

    Tata Steel has selected this year’s theme as Going Digital for this year’s pageantry as Tata Son’s new chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran would be the chief guest of the show.

    Meanwhile, widening of several important roads – Straight Mile Road (Sakchi to Jusco town office), Inner Circle Road (connecting Bistupur to Kadma), Tinplate-Nildih Road (Golmuri to Telco), Straight Mile Road (Agrico to Sidhgora) and Bistupur-Shastrinagar Road has been completed for the founder’s day celebration.

    Founder’s Day was first instituted by Tata Steel on March 3, 1932. It was D N Madan, Chief Accountant, Tata Iron and Steel Company, who first conceived the idea of observing and celebrating an annual gathering to commemorate the birth anniversary of J.N. Tata. Founder’s day provided him with an opportunity of expressing his regard for the memory of the genius to whose faith and adjustment, energy and perseverance, the works, the towns and the environs of Jamshedpur bear enduring witness.

    Tata Steel commemorated the Diamond Jubilee year celebrations in 1967. The Founder’s Day Celebration this year, as the preceding ones, followed the time tested pattern. The company turned 75 in 1982. Consequently, the Founder’s Day celebration coincided with the Platinum Jubilee Celebration. The programme was inaugurated by Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. The company solemnized the 150th birth anniversary of J.N. Tata in 1989.
