Flood spectre in low lying areas of Jamshedpur as Dam gates open

Jamshedpur, June 19: Flood spectre looms in the low-lying areas on the river banks of Subernarekha due to the opening of five gates of Chandil Dam which has led to increase in water level of Subernarekha and Kharkai river. 


According to reports, due to heavy rains for the last few days there was increase in water level of Chandil dam which led to submergence of villages in the catchment areas.

The Ichagarh MLA Savita Mahato had personally phoned up chief minister Hemant Soren on Friday night and the chief minister who was in Delhi had asked the state water resource department secretary to look into the issue which led to the opening of five gates of the dam.

On Saturday morning the water level of Subernarekha river was at 117.36 meter while the danger level was at 111.00 metre while the Kharkai river at Adityapur was at 127.12 meger while the danger level was at 123 meter which led water inundation in Shastrinagar, Kadma and Bhuiyandih area. 


Administration has taken steps to remove people to safer locations.
