Fake DTO arrested from Dhatkidih

Jamshedpur, June 15: Seraikela-Kharsawan police on Wednesday arrested a person named Md. Anwar, who was impersonating as a DTO (district transport Officer), from Dhatkidih under Bistupur police station area here.

Seraikela police was accompanied by Bistupur police and DSP�(CCR)�Janchitha Karketta.

The police recovered owner books of several vehicles, driving licenses and cheque books of various banks from his office situated in Dhatkidih. A number of documents following a complaint of extortion lodged�by a transporter with the Adityapur police station were also seized.

According to sources, Md. Anwar was working under the protection of DTO of Seraikela-Kharsawan. He used to stop several vehicles posing as DTO and extort money from the vehicle owners. The police was informed that a part of the extortion money was also sent to the Seraikela DTO.

Receiving regular complains about Md. Anwar, Serailkela SP Inderjeet Mahatha had set up a team that raided the office of Md. Anwar and arrested him red-handed. Police also recovered a computer and printer from his office.

According to information, the broker Anwar Khan had in the name of district transport officer (DTO), Seraikela demanded the transporter Kanhayia Singh to pay Rs 2 lakh and when he refused to pay seized the transporter’s truck at Gamharia police station.�

The transporter, who is a resident of Seraikela lodged a complaint against the broker with the Adityapur police station.

The police team led by additional SP, Seraikela, KV Raman raided Khan’s office this afternoon, the accused fled as the police reached.� Later the police seized the documents from Khan’s office which is located on at Dhatkidih in Bistupur.

Additional SP, Raman said that they have seized Forms 23-38 meant for processing ownership documents, driving licenses and seal of DTO office and several other documents which belonged to the DTO office, Seraikela.

“We have unearthed a racket sort of thing. In fact, Khan was running a parallel DTO, Seraikela-Kharsawan district at his office located in Dhatkidih.� Moreover, the accused had been posing himself a staff of the DTO, Seraikela-Kharsawan and extorting money from the transporters and owners,” said the additional SP.

Raman pointed out they have seized the documents which will be probed so as to establish the link with DTO, Seraikela.

Seraikela-Kharsawan deputy commissioner, K Srinivasan, said they had been receiving complaints from a section of transporters and Seraikela residents that some people are extorting money from them.He said they will take action against those involved.

” If people like Anwar Khan have demanded money from any transporter in the name of DTO, Seraikela, then it is a matter of great concern.� We will ensure that such thing does not take place again,” said the deputy commissioner.�
