Ex-gratia amounts to reset people on earning ways: Manoranjan Kabi

Chaibasa, Jan 23: A legal empowerment camp organized by the District Legal Services Aid (DLSA) committee at the Jhikpani Block Office was jointly inaugurated by Additional District and Sessions Judge of Chaibasa Civil Court Manoranjan Kabi, Deputy Commissioner West Singhbhum Arava Rajkamal, Superintendent of Police Ajay Linda, DLSA Secretary Kumari Jiu, Registrar of Civil Court, BDO Prabhat Ranjan Chowdhury and people’s representatives.

A street corner play (Nukkad Natak) was staged on the theme, ‘Sadak Suraksha, Jivan Raksha.’ Songs on the same theme were also presented on the occasion. The thematic base of both, the play and the songs was to wear helmets and fasten seatbelts and not to indulge in speed and drunken driving.

85 beneficiaries of various government welfare projects including those under old age, widow and physically challenged pension schemes received their sanctions at the camp. The second installment of PMAY was sanctioned to 74 beneficiaries. Among the Jharkhand government’s most ambitious projects, 276 beneficiaries were given green cards while 11 others received compassionate ex-gratia grants by cheques. Two physically challenged persons were presented tricycles to facilitate their movement.

The Health Department also set up a camp where health checks were conducted and free medicines distributed.

In his address, Additional District and Sessions Judge Manoranjan Kabi said that the Legal Services Authority Act had been framed with the purpose to ensure that every citizen was armed with legal information and their confidence in the judicial system grew. Legal Services Authority, he said, had been instituted at national, state and district levels to meet the purposes of the Act. Manoranjan Kabi observed, “Today, at this camp, you have seen the disbursal of various government projects’ sanctions and this was done to make you lead happy, peaceful, contented and progressive lives. I also appeal to all of you to stay safe and keep others safe by following all government COVID protocols.”

The District and Sessions Judge stressed on the compassionate ex-gratia amount handed to the recipients were intended to help the distressed families to get back to their earning ways and move forward in life. “There is always daybreak after the darkest night. Be assured that the government and the entire administration are there with you at all times,” he said.
