Eviction drive clears encroachments near Tatanagar Railway Station


    Jamshedpur, April 26: East Singhbhum district administration on Wednesday launched a massive eviction drive to clear encroachments near Tatanagar Railway Station.

    The drive which began in the morning with couple of earth movers pressed into service to remove vast stretches of encroached temporary structures started from Chaibasa bus stand (Railway Station Exit Gate) to Sankata Singh Petrol Pump removing temporary shops from both side of the Station road. Several make shift shops including those of snacks, tea and beetle shops were removed in presence of police force which were present in large number.

    Senior administrative officials led the drive which also removed several vegetable vendors from the bridge leading towards Burmamines.

    Wednesday’s anti-encroachment drive, although for the larger convenience of citizens, held up traffic on the vital Jugsalai-Tatanagar Station road stretch for hours.

    The administrative officials claimed that this drive will make a way for smooth flow of traffic. The policemen present on the spot removed the make-shift shops and the wares forcibly. The kind of shops which faced the eviction axe included vegetable shops, fruit shops, tea stalls, snacks corner.

    Near railway station several vendors used to earn their daily bread by running makeshift shops on the footpath. An official, who was present on the occasion said that the drive was carried peacefully without any protest.

    Incidentally, more than 100 vendors illegally occupy the pavements and the roads selling their products leaving practically no space for pedestrians to walk on the pavements while going to Tatanagar Station.

    The bridge links Burmamines on one end and Jugsalai on the other and is the only road to Tatanagar Station for residents of Baridih, Telco, Golmuri, Sidhgora, Agrico, Birsanagar and Burmamines witnesses nearly 60,000 vehicles crossing it daily.
