Jamshedpur : Much to the discomfiture of a section of the parents seeking manual lottery for admission to the entry level in the private unaided English medium schools, the apex body of the private English schools has decided to go with Saras software for random selec-tion of the candidates for admission to Nursery, LK and
UKG classes.

Citing the February 2013 judgment of the Delhi High Court wherein the court ruled in favour of the private schools, the Jamshedpur chapter of the Jharkhand Private Unaided English Medium Schools Association (JPUEMSA)
has said that no individual or organization have the right to interfere with the schools in admission procedure
in the preschool stage.

“The Delhi High Court upheld the right of private unaided schools to formulate individual admission procedures for entry level admissions,” said senior JPUEMSA functionary, B Chandrashekhar.

He was apparently referring to the judgment that was delivered while disposing of a PIL seeking quashing of the notifications, issued by the Union Human Resources Development (HRD) Ministry and the Directorate of Education (DoE) respectively, that gave powers to private unaided schools to formulate their own criteria.

“We have informed the district education department about the court’s ruling,” said Chandrashekar apparently suggesting that private English schools will continue with saras software for random selection of the candidates in the 2014-15 academic session despite opposition.

The Jamshedpur Abhivavak Sangh (JAS), the outfit seeking manual lottery in random selection of the candidates said it is unaware about any such judgment of the court.

“The Delhi High Court judgment is applicable in the national capital region only,” said JAS convenor, Dr Umesh alleging that English schools are misleading the society on the pretext of the said judgment.

Officials in the district education department said merits of the judgment copy will be studied thoroughly before concluding anything.

The JAS has alleged that Saras 2.0 software is a flawed technology and it should be replaced by manual lottery for admission to entry level stage.

The Saras 2.0, developed by Jupiter Software and Systems Pvt Ltd, works on data fed to it. It mixes the given names and takes out lists for a maximum number of five times after which a printout is taken.
