East Singhbhum workers avail Direct Benefit Transfer worth Rs 2.3 crore

Jamshedpur: Direct benefit transfer (DBT) worth Rs 2.3 crore was effected at Michael John Auditorium, Bistupur, by the state Food Supply and Consumer Affairs minister Saryu Roy here on Saturday on the occasion of Shramik Samman Samaroh.

Addressing a gathering of labourers invited for being honoured by the state labour department, Roy said the state government had implemented the DBT scheme to give compensation and financial assistance to a large number of workers across the state. He said the day of Vishwakarma Puja was aptly chosen to mark the importance of the day and the vital role played by workers in the development of the state and the nation.

The minister handed over letters of appreciation and mementoes to the labourers at the function. He said the government was committed to the cause of workers of the state. He appealed to workers to avail benefits of various schemes being run for their welfare by the state and Central government.

Also present on the occasion, the MP of Jamshedpur Vidyut Varan Mahato said the governments at the Centre and the state wanted to make the labourers skilled and smart. He said the government wanted the labourers to get maximum return on their hard work and investment. He said many skill development schemes were currently being run by both the Central and the state governments.

The MLA of Ghatsila Laxman Tudu was also present at the programme. He said labourers were the architects of the society. The importance of labourers should be accepted by one and all, he said.

Baharagora MLA Kunal Sarangi said the schemes related to the welfare of labourers should be publicized so that more and more people get the benefits.

It may be mentioned here that the CM had announced on the occasion of Labour Day on 1st May this year to celebrate 17th September as Shramik Samman Diwas. Similar functions were held in other districts of the state on the occasion of Vishwakarma Puja.

Today’s programme started off with a welcome speech by the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum Amit Kumar. Many senior administration officials and union leaders were present during the event.
