E-governance to play pivotal role in good governance: CM

Ranchi: Chief Minister Raghubar Das said that information technology (IT) will play an important role in providing good governance to people.

Government of Jharkhand is serious about introducing E-Governance in every sphere of governance so that fruits of development initiatives reach to the targeted populations.

He said that Jharkhand would not see growth if aspirations and needs of sections of disadvantaged peoples is overlooked. The chief minister was addressing a meeting on E-governance at ATI auditorium today.

Speaking on the occasion Raghubar Das said that recently he had received many complaints of the common people concerning ownerships of land.

It showed that common masses are deprived of their basic rights, he said. Through rigorous implementation of E-governance it would be possible to get rid of middlemen that often rob the common and gullible masses, he said.

The CM further said that E-governance could contribute greatly in establishing good governance. It will serve as a perfect medium for dissipation of information and for bringing fruits of development at the doorstep of the common citizens.

If E-governance is introduced properly Jharkhand would become a developed State in no time, he said.

Urban development minister CP Singh said that to establish transparent and responsive governance it would be imperative to introduce E-governance.

Roles of information technology could not be overlooked in today�s world, he said. He on the occasion assured that officials and the departments would get all necessary support from the government to implement system of e-governance.

On the occasion secretary (IT), Government of India, RS Sharma averred that Jharkhand would move forward on the path of development as the State now has a stable government and strong leadership.

Giving a presentation he highlighted how information technology could be used in government arms including registration, transportation, PDS, scholarships to students, excise and commercial tax, and public grievance cell.

Sharma said that computerization had been introduced in various State departments in 2005. Therefore it would not be difficult to introduce e-governance in Jharkhand, he observed.

The IT secretary of Government of India stressed on the fact that e-government should be introduced first for land registration for early processing of mutation and easy availability of land blueprints. In similar manner IT should also be implemented for strengthening PDS.

He also highlighted that computerization and IT network would further improve banking transactions and would help generate more revenues if applied in various government departments. Sharma said that e-governance would fulfill Prime Minister�s dream of Digital India.

Chief secretary Rajiv Gauba said that e-government is a medium to provide better services to people. Dream of good governance could be achieved through proper utilization of information technology, he added.
