Jamshedpur, Dec. 18: One of the most reputed school of Jamshedpur, DBMS English School set up in the year 1965 has completed 50 glorious years of excellence and is still going strong.
To celebrate the Golden Jubilee, Kadma based school will be organizing 3-day festivity with series of programs including dance, drama and cultural events at its campus from 21 to 23 December.
�We created history 50 years ago when DBMS English School was set up in Jamshedpur as the first non missionary and co-educational English medium school, said Bhanumati Neelakanthan, chairperson, DBMS.
Loyola and Sacred Heart Convent are the first English medium missionary schools in Jamshedpur.
She further said, DBMS has achieved a lot in these 50 years and we where the first school to start plus 2 education and set up ultramodern computer laboratory in Jamshedpur and the only school in the city to have smart class from L.kg to std. 12.
When asked about what sort of changes she was witnessing in education in 1965 and 2015, Mrs. Neelakanthan, addressing a press conference on Friday, said, �Earlier the students were very well behaved and obedient and had affable relation with the teachers but today the students don�t have respect for the teachers and there has been a vast behavioral change�.
�When we started the school the fees for a student was Rs 15, teacher salary was Rs 100 while other school staffs use to get Rs 50 as salary per month� said, the chairperson, adding, �DBMS B.Ed College will start by September 2016 near Rankini Mandir in Kadma�.
Talking about the Golden Jubilee festivity, Rajani Shekhar, principal of DBMS English School, said, �Around 200 alumni from all over the country and some from abroad will be part of the celebration which will kick off with interaction of prominent alumni and the present students of the school on Monday, December 21 in the morning. Chief Guest on the day will be chief minister Raghubar Das this will be followed by cultural program and �Musical Nite� by the alumni in the evening�.
Mrs. Shekhar further said that day 2 of the celebration on Tuesday, December 22, former teachers and alumni of the school who have excelled in various fields will be awarded. The list includes including filmmaker Tathagata Bhattacharjee from Kolkata, Dr. Rao from Canada, Ranjana Mishra, Rajat Ghosh and Vinit Bhatt to name a few.
This will be followed a cultural programme by ex-students in the evening where TV Narendra, managing director, Tata Steel will be the chief guest.
Principal informed that on Wednesday, December 23, founder members and managing committee members along with school staffs and faculty members will be honoured followed by a documentary made by Tathagata Bhattacharjee on history of DBMS English School through the years will be screened.
A cultural program �Hamara Sunhera Itihas� will be put up while journey of the school will be highlighted through dance, drama and music.
Earlier Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani was to attend the celebration but due to unavoidable circumstances she wouldn�t be able to make it, Mrs. Shekhar signed off.
