CS directs completion of all farm pond work by June 10

Ranchi, May 31: Chief secretary Rajbala Verma directed the district agriculture and soil conservation officers to complete farm pond (dova) digging work at any cost by June 10.

She further directed them to use machines to expedite the work and complete it before arrival of monsoon. Verma asked the officials to work in mission mode to complete pond digging scheme of department. The CS was chairing a video conferencing review meeting today.

CS further instructed the officials to arrange soil compacting by encouraging villagers to grow vegetables and grass to prevent carved clay from getting into the farm pond again during rain.

Officials got direction to organize farm pond quality week during next week and ensure quality work. The CS added that negligence will not be tolerated in farm pond digging works. She asked the officials to complete those ponds whose work has been started and technical and administrative approval has already been given.

Showing her displeasure over slow start of pond construction works in Jamtara, West Singhbhum, Khunti, Dhanbad and Palamu, Verma directed the officials to complete the work on time otherwise action will be initiated against them. She said, �Farm pond digging is flagship scheme of state government and this campaign has to be completed before arrival of monsoon.�

During the meeting, officials informed the CS that department has already approved 97,000 farm pond digging proposals against 100,295 applications received so far. In addition, Rs 7222 lakh have already been transferred in the accounts of 85520 beneficiaries.

Nitin Madan Kulkarni, secretary (Agriculture), Director, Soil Conservation, and other officials attended the meeting.
