Consumex-2014 kick start at Tulsi Bhawan


    Jamshedpur: From home-made pickles to decorative pieces made out of waste products, the creative talent of women exhibitors took centre stage at the four-day long consumer fair, Consumex-2014 at Tulsi Bhawan in Bistupur.

    In a bid to promote women entrepreneurs and artisans and provide them a platform to market their products, Jamshedpur Marwari Mahila Manch (JMMM) has been organising the fair from last more than a decade.

    Participants from different areas including Ranchi, Kolkata, Ghatshila, Chakradharpur, Chakulia, Chandil, Musabani and Chaibasa are taking part in the fair.

    About 70 stalls of a variety of products like real jewellary, mens wear, women’s wear and host of other products have been displayed.

    “We believe that consumer fairs are appropriate platform for promotion of women entrepreneurs since it can woo customers in large numbers. During the festive season, people go on shopping spree and what better way to attract them than a fair like Consumex,” said Beena Khirwal, a senior official of JMMM.

    She went on to inform that the fair is being organised from last several years and on an average every day about five thousand people visit the fair. This year too they are hopeful of overwhelming response. This would be an appropriate occasion to shop for festivals like Durga Puja, Diwali,” noted Khirwal.

    Jyotsna Agrawal another official said that there are several women who can produce creative products at their home. The idea behind the fair is to help them in marketing the products so that they can receive a better return.

    The participants at the fair are also excited. “I am known for making pickles at home. However from past three years, I am participating in the fair to market my products in a much efficient manner,” Swati Sharma.

    It may be mentioned that JMMM, a city-based social and cultural organisation, is dedicated towards women empowerment. It regularly undertakes series of programme for the welfare of the society.
