Congress celebrates Gurdaspur win in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: Congress workers in Jamshedpur were in celebratory mode after Punjab’s ruling party dislodged the BJP from its stronghold of Gurdaspur in the Lok Sabha by-elections.

Jharkhand state Youth Congress workers headed by state secretary Rakesh Sahu celebrated early Diwali and distributed ladoos among the commuters after Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar trounced BJP’s Swaran Salaria by nearly 2 lakh votes on Sunday. With the main opposition party AAP also in the running, the triangular contest was seen as a prestige battle for the ruling party, which won the assembly elections in the state six months ago.

On the occasion, Rakesh Sahu, said it was a “referendum” on the NDA rule at the Centre. The people of Gurdaspur, he said, had sent a “strong message of their resentment” to policies pursued by the Centre and same will be visible all over the country in coming days.

Youth Congress district vice president Prince Singh and OBC department district president Surendra Sharma said, it’s a big setback for the BJP and good sign for the Congress. People of the country will bring back the Congress party at the centre after the 2019 general elections, added Singh.

Present on the occasion were Rahul Goswami, Kamlesh Sahu, Aruna Mukhi, Shankar Mukhi, Manoj Sahu, Ranjan Mukhi, Naveen Mishra, Kuldeep Singh, Avtar Singh and others.
