Jamshedpur, Dec. 20: The steel city was looking a lot like Goa on Sunday. Tata Steel, Jusco
and Jamshedpur Hotelier�s Association hosted its annual Jamshedpur Carnival and parade with fun, games and much more.
With a slight nip in the air, Sunday�s weather was perfect for a great turnout. The carnival aligned with Goa and Brazil carnivals started from Jamshedpur founder�s statue at 2.30 pm.
The carnival was flagged off by SDO Alok Kumar and SSP Anoop T. Mathew jointly with the core team members of the organising committee of the JSR fest � Ashish Mathur, GM Sharan, Ronnie D�Costa. A Latin band known as Orient Express was playing all throughout the parade.
Kids, ladies and all assembled were dancing away to glory. Crowds flocked to the carnival to enjoy the colourful costumes, music and food and a colourful parade of bikes and cars.
This was followed by a contingent of Harley Davidson motor bikers and four vintage cars, the first armoured vehicle made by Tata Steel was also displayed. The parade also saw various dancing contingents from the Urban Services community centres.
The vintages cars included Chevrolet of 1932 and Moris Eight of 1959 and a fleet of Harley Davidson motorcycles with well built bikers on the seat.
Colourful floats with cartoons, a Bhangra troupe, jugglers, stilt performers and vintage cars made the parade more colourful. A group of school boys dressed in Santa Claus attire added colour to the carnival parade. One of the tableaus, with devotees worshiping Goddess Durga and her entourage attracted the crowd.
The evening festival started with inauguration by T V Narendran, MD, Tata Steel. Speaking on the occasion Mr Narendran said �This initiative is very special for the city of Jamshedpur and I am happy to see it growing from strength to strength.
Tata Steel�s commitment for the community has been going on for more than 100 years and this initiative is a part of it.
I wish all the very best and success to Jamshedpur Fest 2015�The inauguration was followed by competition where participants from the out locations � Jharia, West Bokaro also participated The competition was witnessed by Mr Sunil Bhaskaran VP, CS , Suresh Kumar VP, Shared Services ,Tarun Naga, MD, Tinplate, Rakeshwar Pandey, president, Tisco Mazdur Union and Anil Khemka from JSR Hotelier Association along with the crowd.
Number of events has been lined up on day 2 of the Carnival with a clash of bands, Master Chef Contest to name a few. The food festival by various hotels and restaurants of the Jamshedpur made for a mouthwatering evening with the winter chill.
