Clerk at DLC office arrested for taking Rs 4,000 bribe

Jamshedpur, May 12: A team from the Anti-Corruption Department, Jharkhand, arrested a clerk for taking Rs 4,000 as bribe at the Deputy Labor Commissioner’s (DLC) office in Sitaramdera on Thursday morning.

The arrested clerk, Ashwini Kumar (42) had demanded the bribe from the proprietor of a city-based construction firm, Santoshi Enterprises, for renewal of labor license.

The raid at the DLC office was conducted by an eight-member team, which comprised officials from the department’s Ranchi bureau and the Chaibasa divisional bureau.

After arresting the clerk red-handed, the team members went to the residence of the accused at Bhuiyandih and recovered Rs 1.75 lakh cash later in the afternoon.

Sunil Kumar Chaudhury, inspector, the anti-corruption department’s Chaibasa divisional bureau, who was also in the team, said that the proprietor of the said construction firm wanted his labor license renewed last month, but the clerk asked him to pay Rs 5,000 for the same.

The proprietor had subsequently approached the Anti-Corruption Department and lodged a complaint.

Chaudhury said the team members later went to his official residence in Bhuiyandih and while searching the safe they found Rs 1.75 lakh, which was seized. The arrested clerk was later taken to Ranchi at 3 p.m.
