Chaibasa: West Singhbhum police here claimed to have detected and removed a great risk looming large on the lives of VIP guests including Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das frequently visiting the Circuit House at Chaibasa by arresting a suspected Maoist aid.

The accused, identified as Birendra Das, the caretaker of Circuit House at Chaibasa and a resident of Bodam PS area in East Singhbhum, was arrested for allegedly leaking vital information regarding the arrival, stay and movement of VIP guests to CPI (Maoist) leaders of West Singhbhum. He used to make arrangements for food and lodging facilities for the VIP guests at the Circuit House.

Claiming to have unearthed the nefarious link between the caretaker and Maoist leaders operating in Kolhan, especially those hiding in West Singhbhum, police heaved a sigh of relief after identifying the black sheep among the Circuit House staff. DSP (Headquarters) Prakash Soy said police detected the Maoist connection of the caretaker on the basis of information obtained from the surveillance of his mobile phone.

Our technical cell had received information about a person in touch with a veteran Maoist leader through phone. When we inquired about the number, we found that the SIM was issued by Tirupati Sales of Nimdih in the name of a dead person. After further inquiry, we came to know that Birendra Das was the person who was in touch with the Maoist leader. When Virendra got wind of the ongoing police investigation, he threw his mobile phone in river Kuju. He was ultimately caught with the help of the technical cell of police department.

During interrogation, he has spilled the beans and told us how he was once taken to a Maoist camp in Jeteya forests by Shankar Sirka, one of the Maoist leaders, said the DSP.

Virendra Das claimed before police that the Maoists had threatened to kill his family members in case he refused to work for them and pass vital information regarding the arrival, stay and movement of VIP guests of the Circuit House. On this cops said they were trying to find out if Das was telling the truth or was simply involved with the Maoists for the sake of money.

With the detection of Maoist link of the Circuit House caretaker, district police here heaved a sigh of relief as Maoists had recently threatened to kill the CM and senior police officials of the state. Security of the CM had been beefed up both in Ranchi and around his residence in Jamshedpur.
