CII organises workshop, industry experts brainstorm on sexual harassment

Jamshedpur : Confederation of India Industry (CII) Jharkhand organised an awareness workshop on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace especially for MSME at Centre for Excellence, Jamshedpur in an attempt to sensitise employers on this important subject.

Neeraj Kant, vice chairman CII Jamshedpur zonal council and managing director, The Indian Steel & Wire Products Ltd said that till the time basic human dignity of women is not recognized and respected by men, no law will be effective. It is important that constitutionally guaranteed principles of equality among men and women do not remain only empty words and should be upheld in practice.

He also mentioned that the discrimination, on most of the times, includes elements of harassment and violence against women. Furthermore, he added that the harassment can be both mental as well as physical. More often than not physical harassment takes the form of sexual harassment or Sexual violence.

Ujwala Asundi Kumar, head – partnerships & strategy SCRA2CH Media Private Limited mentioned that the sense of security at the workplace will improve women’s participation in work, resulting in their economic empowerment and inclusive growth.

Subhenjit Choudhary managing director, Tata Pigments Limited said that all incidents of sexual harassment � no matter how large or small or who is involved � require employers or managers to respond quickly and appropriately and the organization must show commitment to this matter. Women should not fear to come forward with their problems and complaints.

Madhulika Sharma , chief corporate sustainability , Tata Steel Limited discussed on Sensitization on role and responsibilities of employer under sexual harassment of women at workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. She also talked about the roles and responsibilities of the employer along with setting up of internal complaint committee for this issue in an organization.

Preeti Sehgal company secretary & chief CSR, JUSCO shared the awareness on the statues of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 . She said Every organization should have an effective employment policy that should ensure well planned career paths based on merit to reduce the vulnerability of individuals and harassment by those who abuse their power and authority.

Usha Rani Director Prowess International (P) Limited Delivered the concluding remarks and thanked all the speakers and the companies participating in the programme.

She also highlighted the importance of this sensitive session and said There should be awareness among the staff members about sexual harassment and the consequences they may face if they indulge in such an act.

They should know their social responsibilities to prevent such incident in their organization.
