Jamshedpur, March 13: In an attempt to increase the opportunities and open all educational avenues to the Indian students, the Australian government in association with Cambridge English presented a challenge for the young minds.
Students from IGCSE, IB, CBSE, ICSE and state board schools across the country were given the opportunity to win a five-day trip to Australia, hosted by leading Australian universities in the �Advance to Australia India Schools Video Competition.�
Each school had the opportunity to compete in four topics namely Social Entrepreneurship – Act NOW, Robotics – Rise of Everyday Robot, Creative Animation and Marine Sciences – India’s coastal and marine environments: A future for everyone.
They were to represent four teams, one for each category, comprising of two students studying in Classes 7-11.Top four universities of Australia, Bond University, James Cook University, Curtin University and Charles Darwin University sponsored this event. The winning teams will be granted a study trip to one of these esteemed institutions for five days between April and July 2016.
Amid 390 applicants, Carmel Junior College, Jamshedpur, won the robotics category and was cleared as finalists in the Marine Sciences category.
Ayushi Ghosh and Shankhadeep Roy under the guidance of teacher co-ordinator Prabha Prakash, principal Sr Lini and vice-principal Sr Steffi, representing Carmel for the robotics, while Smriti Prakash and Anushka Eswaran from the marine sciences category received recognition for their efforts. Ayushi and Shankhadeep will be going to Curtin University, Australia, for their study trip.
A felicitation ceremony was held at the Murray Harris Hall at the Australian High Commission in Delhi for these young achievers on March 10.
High Commissioner Harinder Sidhu presided over the ceremony. Appreciating the efforts of all participating schools, Sidhu said that the response and quality of presentations was phenomenal.
For the winning duo from this city, she highlighted the simplicity, optimum use of resources and clear script as the appealing factors.
