Mega walkathon marks World Cancer Day in Jamshedpur
Jamshedpur, Feb 4: Brahmananda Narayana Multispeciality Hospital organised a mega walkathon to World Cancer Day on Sunday. Dr Shukla Mohanty, Vice Chancellor Kolhan University, Aruna Mishra, international boxer, Ragini Singh, senior consultant- OBS &Gynae and Venkateshwarlu Marapaka, facility director of the hospital, flagged off the run from Dorabji Modi Park.
On the occasion, Dr Amit Kumar (Medical Oncologist), Dr. Ashish Kumar (Surgical Oncologist) gave health tips on how to prevent cancer and stay healthy.
They said that if the disease is identified in the first stage then it can be fully cured. The doctors informed that Jharkhand women are mostly sufferers of breast cancer while oral cancer in men. Cancer patients are less in Jharkhand but the number of patients who die of the disease is lot more and the main reason is lack of awareness.
‘According to a report, lakhs of patients are affected from one or different kinds of cancer and through this walkathon on the world cancer day we aim to make the people aware about the disease’, added the doctors.
More than 3000 walkers from corporate houses like TBSS, Ageis, Metalsa, Eminent Clubs, societies like- Oncology Committee of Jamshedpur, Gynecological Society of Jamshedpur, Birsa Boxing Club, Lion Club, Rotary Club, Marwari Mahila Manch,Tinplate Mahila College, leading media houses, Radio stations and students from Jamshedpur Womens college, Graduate colleges and Bag- e Jamshed took part in it.
A total of 3.5 kms distance was covered in walkathon. As part of the observance, cancer survivors were felicitated by Oncology team. On the occasion, Mobile cancer Screening Unit was inaugurated by Cancer Survivors & Facility Director Venkateshwarlu Marapaka.
The Mobile cancer Screening Unit will move towards the rural areas and will check-up the cancer patients.
