Can bomb recovered from Adityapur, police suspect Maoists

Jamshedpur, July 3: A can bomb weighing about 20 Kgs was found behind the boundary wall of Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Shantinagar under Adityapur police station area on Monday morning.

Apart from the bomb there was a 200 metre long electric wire which was found nearby. The police suspect it to be the work of Maoists who want to make their presence felt. As the news spread, the police came into action and by 9.30 am, the bomb was blasted by a team of bomb-disposal squad which come from Ranchi.

Seraikela-Kharsawan superintendent of police, Chandan Kumar Sinha confirmed about the detection of a can bomb from behind the wall of Krishi Vigyan Kendra.

“Yes we have recovered a powerful bomb that was kept hidden behind the boundary of the government-run institute. We got the bomb blasted by pressing a bomb-disposal squad from Ranchi,” said the SP. Sinha pointed out that there was about a 200-metre-long electric wire.

” It is too early to comment on those behind the act but we can say that the bomb had been kept for hiding purpose, but we cannot say anything precisely if it had been kept there by any naxal outfit. May be the bomb was kept for a future use in the area.

We are, however, trying hard to find out the persons or group of persons involved in bringing the IED at a place like Shantinagar and the purpose behind bringing the device,” said the senior police officer.

The SP said a local resident had informed the police about the EID early this morning and they had promptly acted to get the bomb defused and blasted.

But a source in the Adityapur said that they suspect the act of keeping the can-bomb behind the boundary wall of a government institute must have been committed by CPI(Maoist) naxals.

“We have internally discussed that the rebels had made their presence felt upto Kandra during 2010, when the naxal activities were in its peak. We cannot ruled out the possibility of Maoists behind the act ,” said a police official.

Sources informed that there are intelligence inputs that CPI (Maoist) may indulge in demonstrative acts of violence by targeting security forces and economic infrastructure such as trains, buses, railway stations, bus stations and other places where people are likely to gather in significant numbers.

ďA strict vigil would be kept on the non-government commercial establishments. Even the security would be beefed up at some of the naxal prone areas,Ē said a police official.
