Bengal’s Shimreen enters in U-16 semis

Jamshedpur, July 14: Unseeded Shimreen Ahamed from Bengal stuns 2nd seed and state-mate Ananya Yadav in the quarter finals of the Girls Singles Under 16 category at the ongoing Beldih Club AITA Championship Series 2017 on Friday, been held at the tennis courts of both Beldih Club and United Club in Jamshedpur.

12 year old Shimreen Ahamed stole the show, as she came back from a set down to defeat 2nd seeded Yadav by a long 4-6, 6-2,6-4 and thereby enter the semi finals of the Girls Singles Under 16 event.

Amrutjay Mohanty of Odisha enters the final of both Boys Singles Under 14 as well as 16 category, surpassing Arvind Pemmaraju and Deep Munim in the semi finals respectively.

Finals will start from 8:00 am onwards at Beldih Club on Saturday with the Prize Distribution Ceremony scheduled at 5:30 pm tentatively at the main hall of Beldih Club.

The event is being organized under the banner of �All India Tennis Association (AITA�) and Jharkhand Tennis Association (JTA) from July 10 -14, 2017. The qualifying rounds were held on July 8 & 9, 2017 at both the venues.

The Beldih Club AITA Championship Series 2017, which has made a comeback after eight years, was inaugurated by Tata Steel vice-president (corporate services) Sunil Bhaskaran in the presence of Jusco MD Ashish Mathur and others on July 10. The event is being organised by Beldih Club under the aegis of AITA and Jharkhand Tennis Association.
