Basti Vikash Samity meets Jusco MD

Jamshedpur : A delegation of Basti Vikash Samity today met the Jusco managing director Ashish Mathur at the corporate office.

The delegation demanded power connection on similar lines as the water supply which it has agreed to provide in the urban slums. Incidentally, Raghubar Das had initiated the agitation for ownership rights to 86 urban slums (outside Tata Steel command areas) in 1994-95 under the banner of Basti Vikas Samity. The matter is sub-judice with the Jharkhand High Court.

Basti Vikash Samity central president Chandrasekhar Mishra said that the delegation raised demand for power supply during the half-an-hour meeting.

We have received a positive response. Jusco MD has assured to look into the modalities of providing power supply in these urban slums as they have already started providing water connections in these slums. We will be providing them list of the urban slums where they have infrastructure for power connections,” said Mishra.

Incidentally, Jusco had in the last week of April started supplying water connections forms in different urban slums. In the first phase around 4,500 connections would be given in first phase at those urban slums where the Jusco already has its water supply line laid. After completion of the first phase (seven – eight months), Jusco will start laying water pipelines in the remaining urban slums.

Jusco would ensure quality drinking water to the residents but it is people’s responsibility to conserve and protect wastage. He further emphasized to those who already have water connections to install meter so that their consumption is monitored and they consume water as per the requirement and not waste it.

Jusco has completed 12 nos. metered connections. The process for installing water meter with connection has started today and in the next 6-8 months JUSCO has plans to complete all the existing 4500 connections.
