Basanti Durga Puja festivities grip Jamshedpur with devotional fervour

Jamshedpur : The city is gripped with religious fervour with Ram Navami and the Basanti Navratra being held.

Devotees today flocked to the Beldih Kalibari on Ashtami which is organising the 32nd Basanti Durgapuja like every year. The Basanti Durga Puja was started by Late.� Brahmananda Shastri under the banner of Bharatiya Yugavashistha Brahmananda Sangha.

Since morning, men and women queued up to offer puja and get a glimpse of goddess Basanti today. Not only in Kalibari but a good crowd was also seen in Aamra Shobai Club in Sonari which has been organising the Basanti Durga Puja.

�We have been celebrating the occasion from several decades. Like every year this yeat too the devotees are participating in lagre numbers. The Kalibari was established in 1933 but the Basanti Durga Puja was started by Guruji in 1983, otherwise the Kalibari was known to organise the Sharadiya Utsav. Today, it has become a major venue even in the Basanti Navratra. People gather for worship and also to enjoy cultural performances in the evening, which is performed by cultural groups and from artistes in Calcutta,” said one of the members of Bharatiya Yugavashistha Brahmananda Sangha.

Like every year, a series of cultural programmes have also being organised by the Bharatiya Yugavashistha Brahmananda Sangha. Odissi, Kathak and Baharatnatyam is being organised to celebrate the three days of the Basanti Puja. While there are about 40 children who would be performing classical and folk dances, Tapan Sarkar and Tanmay Sengupta from Calcutta would perform Kathak and Bhratnatyam respectively.

The Children of Ramakrishna, a socio-spiritual organisation in Sidhgora too is organising the puja for the 43rd year.
Aamra Shobai Club in Sonari stepped in its 36th year with lots of cultural programmes like sit and draw, dance competition and magic show today. Fancy dress competition, for married women will take place tomorrow. The Durga Bari�at the�Chenab Road in�Sakchi is too celebrating the Basanti Durga puja with traditional�gaiety.�

The Children of Ramakrishna, a socio-cultural and spiritual organisation in Sidhgora is also organising the Basanti Durga Puja being the oldest in the city. Apart from the rituals everyday, the organisation also organises social programmes in the evening. Discussions, debates and ghazal programmes will be performed this year.

Men and women waited in two different queue right to the temple gate and flowers. Security personnel along with volunteers of the temple were deployed all along the path to guide the devotees.

Apart from this, several ‘shobha yatras’ are being taken out from different places of the city,
Elaborate security arrangements are being made by the police to maintain peace during the puja period.

RAF jawans were seen patrolling the main thoroughfares and all the important places in the city. Police personnel were also deployed in civil dress to keep an eye on miscreants.
