Barred of benefits, JEPC officials perform yagna at education office

Jamshedpur, Feb. 10: Officials of the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) performed a yagna inside the premises of the district education office in Dhatkidih.

The officials under the banner of JEPC across the state have been demanding a number of benefits after years of service. The JEPC employees have been agitating through strikes for the past five years without the state government taking any step on this problem.

About 40 officials, all from the JEPC who are on an indefinite strike from January 18 said that they are praying to God to change the attitude of the officials at the State Human Resource Development Department. They are confident that this will help them fulfill their long pending demands. They said that other states like Sikkim and West Bengal give all benefits to project employees unlike Jharkhand.

“This yagna has been performed across all the 24 districts of the state. The yagna was to pray the God to give wisdom on the state government officials. All the 40 JEPC employees are out of work and took part in the religious ceremony,” said Pramod Jaiswal, secretary of the Jharkhand Shiksha Pariyojna Parishad Karmi Sangh. He said that they have given a message in the State that their demands are being ignored.

Last year in October too, the association had announced to launch agitation but they decided to drop following assurance made by the state HRD department. For the past five years, the employees have been demanding payment as per sixth pay commission, group insurance, and provident fund deduction.

” We are facing tough situation due to the ignorance. There were about 13 employees under JEPC who have already passed away in the past 10 years.

Their families are starving. The state HRD department has always given us only assurances for so many years. Now they will have to take a step. We have given an eye opening message by conducting yagna,” said Jaiswal.
