Ranchi: A lower court of Hazaribagh today issued an arrest warrant against former agriculture minister of Jharkhand Yogendra Sao in connection with his alleged links with the ultra-Leftist outfit Jharkhand Tiger Group.
Police, meanwhile, arrested Pawan Kumar, a cousin of the former minister in this case. They said an interrogation of the cousin may reveal further facts in the case.
Sources said the Hazaribagh police had summoned Sao for interrogation in connection with his Naxalite links. But Sao, instead of appearing before the police, informed them through his son that he was away from his constituency and hence would be available after a week.
Despite the information given by Sao, police waited for him at the Sadar police station throughout the day.
Sources said the court had issued arrest warrants against Sao and his cousin in the case number 48/14 lodged against them. Sao, who is the MLA of Barkagaon, could not be contacted for his comments in the case.
Police had recently arrested Rajkumar gupta, the kingpin of Jharkhand Tiger Group, and found during his interrogation Sao�s alleged Naxalite links and his role in establishing the outfit.
Gupta had said in the statement recorded under Section 164 of the CRPC that Sao had provided financial aid and ammunition to the Naxalite outfit.
Following the allegations and political pressure, Sao resigned from his post. Many political parties have been mounting pressure on Chief Minister Hemant Soren for a CBI probe into the allegations.
