Jamshedpur, Oct 20: The district administration has re-launched anti encroachment from Patta Market at Sakchi. On Wednesday, a drive was launched, which was led by Sakchi Police officer in charge Rajesh Singh.
In order to make Jamshedpur a better place to live and commute, traffic police in league with the administration embarked on an anti-encroachment drive on a large scale.
The drive was carried on a stretch of Straight Mile Road in commercial hub Sakchi’s market area. The police official said that the anti-encroachment drive was carried out in view of traffic congestion in the Sakchi market.
“We would be carrying out similar drives in different lanes and roads inside the Sakchi market regularly as part of our objective to decongest roads in the market area,” said the official.
Similar drives would be carried out on the road opposite Basant Talkies, Tin Shed Market and on Kalimati Road. This drive will make a way for smooth flow of traffic. Acting on frequent complaints made by residents, the traffic police have started driving from Sakchi.
“We cannot compromise with the safety of the market place. Moreover , people also find it inconvenience to move into the market freely with the passages getting choked due to the make-shift shops,” he said
According to Singh, they would ensure that the market place is cleared of any type of encroachments including the manner in which the shopkeepers had extended their shops.
The increasing encroachment on the Government and Tata Steel lease land area particularly on busy market areas has become a matter of concern. Even the roads are squeezing day by day because of encroachments thus making it difficult to drive the vehicles.
Bistupur, Sakchi and Jugsalai, which are the busiest areas of the town, over fifty fruit vendors and vegetable sellers have encroached the road and there are always a traffic jam as the fruit vendors have occupied one fourth portion of the road, making it difficult to move the heavy vehicles.
The number of encroachers is increasing day by day. Most of the vendors enjoy the patronage of local leaders; therefore, no one dares to ask them to shift to some other place.
