Jamshedpur, Oct 24: Anil Modi, Secretary (Trade and Commerce) of Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has urged the state government to extend the deadline of shop closure and lifting the weekend lockdown on certain businesses in view of the ensuing Dipawali and Chhat festivals. Modi pointed out that Dhanteras and Dipawali were important Sanatan Dharma festivals during which Goddess of Wealth, Ma Lakshmi was worshipped for allround prosperity. The SCCI office bearer stated that the exeact and auspicious time, Lagna, was an important factor for Lakshmi Puja and the deity’s worship Lagna was usually late at night during which shopkeepers with their family members offered prayers to the Goddess in their shops and business or office premises and as such, the shop closing hours should be waived.

He said that since this prayer was symbolic of earning good profit as also for peace and prosperity, the business community had to perform the puja according to the Lagna and follow the traditional practice. Modi also contended that Dipawali and Chhat shoppers as well as traders would find it extremely difficult if the current norms of market hours and days prevailed and hence urged the state government to consider and withdraw the weekend lock down and extend the market functioning hours.
